The 12-year-old victim of a brutal bashing at a Geelong shopping mall has spoken of her ordeal, saying she was too afraid to defend herself during the attack that was caught on camera.

Footage posted online this morning shows a blue-haired girl punching 12-year-old Angel Bardsley, delivering a series of blows to her head and then pushing her into a pillar in the Little Malop St mall.

She then drags the victim to the ground while the surrounding pack yells for her to “get up” and “fight back”.

Angel said she was attacked after trying to intervene and stop her attacker from bullying a friend.

“I was trying to make her stop… and walk away,” she told 9NEWS.

Angel said shopkeepers and passers-by witnessed the attack but did not intervene.

“That’s what made me really angry,” she said.

At least two witnesses can be seen filming the attack on the video.

A 14-year-old girl handed herself into police today.

"I'm sorry for what I did... I know it was wrong," she told 9NEWS tonight.

Police expect to charge the teenager.
