Shocking moment tourist is attacked by croc

A young tourist has been bitten by a crocodile in northern Queensland.

Shocking footage was posted to Facebook of the split-second attack by a woman believed to be a British tourist.

The 24-year-old was at Cape Tribulation beach watching a mudskipper fish skip along the water’s edge when the 1.5m saltwater crocodile leaped out at her.

Laughter turned to screams before the footage ends.

Later the tourist posted a picture of the bite mark on her bloodied leg.

She was taken to Mossman Hospital and discharged this morning, a local health authority spokesman confirmed.

"Wildlife officers will carry out a site assessment of the area today and will potentially target the animal for removal," a spokesperson from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) said in a statement.

"EHP reminds residents and visitors to North Queensland that no waterway in croc country can ever be considered to be free of crocodiles."

A woman from New South Wales, Cindy Waldron, was killed by a large crocodile at Cooper Creek, in Far North Queensland, in May this year.
