Ship building industry at risk: senator
AAP
The Turnbull government risks leading the Australian ship-building industry into a "valley of death", a crossbench senator has warned.
Nick Xenophon was responding to comments Defence Minister Marise Payne made about there being no guarantee patrol boats will be built in Adelaide.
Senator Xenophon told reporters in Canberra on Thursday the government had given a "rock-solid" commitment in August to support the industry and he was seeking a meeting with the prime minister.

Labor isn't happy about the minister's comments.
"This was an extraordinary crawling away from Tony Abbott's promise," opposition defence spokesman Stephen Conroy told reporters.
