Sydney Roosters player Shaun Kenny-Dowall has been admitted to hospital ahead of a scheduled court appearance over allegations he beat and stalked his ex-partner Jessica Peris.
Kenny-Dowall was admitted to hospital earlier this week following a mental health assessment.
It is understood to be a precautionary measure.
He was due in court today but it is now unclear whether he will make an appearance.
The 27-year-old agreed with his club not to take the field on their Sunday match against the New Zealand Warriors.
It is unknown when he will play again, but he has not been officially "stood down" by either the NRL or the Roosters.
Both organisations have refused to comment to any great extent on the matter, saying it will be decided in court.
However, it has previously been reported Kenny-Dowall intends to fight the allegations.
The former New Zealand representative is facing a total of 10 charges.
