A decision on the new sex discrimination commissioner is "imminent", a Senate committee has been told.
Lawyer Elizabeth Broderick completed her extended term in the role in September last year, but it has yet to be filled.
Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said on Monday the timing of the announcement was "imminent" and the "best candidate possible" had been selected for the role following a formal process.
