The government will put $22.5 million towards establishing a National Centre for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse in the upcoming federal budget.

The National Centre was one of the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The funding is a one-off grant over five years, with calls for states and territories to match the commitment.

"The National Centre will provide a strategic focus on research and improving the capacity of services to respond to victims, reducing offender recidivism and preventing future child sexual abuse," Minister for Families and Social Services Paul Fletcher said in a statement.
