Storms smash Sunshine Coast and soak south-east Queensland

Severe storms will continue to soak Brisbane and other parts of south-east Queensland tonight, after earlier causing some damage on the Sunshine Coast.

Heavy winds brought down some trees and powerlines in the coastal suburb of Pomona in the afternoon, and 51mm of rainfall was recorded in Mount Stanley.

Jimna received 42mm of rain, and Mount Nebo received 33mm.

Hail fell in Warwick when a separate band of storms rolled over the south-east from the west.

Residents across south-east Queensland should brace for more wet weather, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasting more heavy rain throughout Saturday night due to a southerly change.

"There'll be… a significant enhancement of shower and storm activity along the coastal strip, initially around the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas late this evening, and moving up to the Sunshine Coast early tomorrow morning."
