The main storm system is currently over the west and Southern Tablelands and is heading towards the coast.

Metropolitan Sydney has not yet been affected but the storm is expected to hit in the coming hours.

Areas that will be affected include the Hunter region, the Illawarra area, the Central Tablelands and parts of the Mid North Coast, Couthern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, and South West Slopes.

The State Emergency Service has advised residents in these areas to stay indoors and move cars away from trees.
