Severe bushfire danger has been forecast for parts of Western Australia's central and northwest on Sunday.

The state's central west, including Geraldton, Chapman Valley, Northampton and Morawa is facing the danger rating, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

The risk extends north to Carnarvon and Shark Bay in the Gascoyne Coast and has also been forecast for the Exmouth region of the Pilbara.

The DFES warns the hot and windy conditions will be perfect for grass fires.

Residents are urged to stay alert for signs of fire and have bushfire survival plans ready.
