Senator Sam Dastyari introduces 'Prime Minister Trumble' in Budget Day stunt

Labor Senator Sam Dastyari has organised an Australian comedian to appear as 'Prime Minister Trumble' to address the media on budget day morning.

In the early morning stunt, Senator Dastyari invited Lawrence Mooney, dressed as Mr Turnbull, to address the media at Parliament House.

"Today is a very, very big day for the prime minister of Australia, Prime Minister Trumbull, and we've been lucky enough to be able to get him here this morning," Senator Dastyari said.

"Thank you, Senator Dastyari even though you are a pinko and a communist, it's always nice to see you outside the Senate," replied Mr Mooney, in his best impression of 'Prime Minister Trumble'.

White House press spokesman Sean Spicer has mispronounced Malcolm Turnbull's name as "Trumble" on at least two occasions, sparking others to adopt the alternative pronunciation in jest.

"It's great to be back on home soil, where everyone knows my name. I enjoy speaking to the news even the fake news - hello to Buzzfeed and the Guardian," 'Mr Trumble' said.

In a wide-ranging speech, references were made to housing affordability, Gonski 2.0 and Labor's notorious "white Australia" advertisement.

At one point, 'Mr Trumble' held up his hands to explain his method of gesticulation.

"Look at that hand, there's the hand of a rich guy, beautifully tanned and perfectly manicured. And over in this hand, I hold my glasses quite emphatically as if to say I read, but my eyesight is poor," he said.

"I enjoy talking, I enjoy pronouncing all of the letters in all of the words."

Towards the end of the address, Labor senator Doug Cameron, known for his distinctive Scottish drawl, walked by.

"Good morning to you," 'Mr Trumble' said, adding once Senator Cameron had left, "I can't understand a word that guy says."
