Senator questions public election funding

One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts says it's wrong for taxpayers to fund political candidates.
Under federal electoral laws, a candidate or Senate group is eligible for public funding if they obtain at least four per cent of the formal first preference vote.
The rate applying to the 2016 federal election was $2.63 per vote.

"Taking money from taxpayers for simply standing candidates - I don't know that that's right," Senator Roberts told Sky News on Monday.
He said One Nation leader Pauline Hanson also had doubts about the system.
One Nation received about $1.6 million from the public purse based on its federal election success.
The Liberals received $23.5 million while Labor got $22.4 million.
