Senator already peddling Greens agenda

It's not easy being Green.

While some incoming senators have had a tough run to Canberra's top office, the road for Greens senator elect Janet Rice was arguably more strenuous.

Physically anyway.

Ms Rice rode into her new office on a pushbike on Monday, having peddled her party's agenda all the way from Victoria to Canberra.

On her two-week journey, dubbed the "listening tour", Ms Rice travelled through goldfields and the Goulburn Valley food bowl, meeting hundreds of Victorians along the way.

Once in parliament next week, she'll continue to peddle the Greens' message of reducing fossil fuels and increasing public transport.

The new Senate is installed on July 1, with 12 incoming senators sworn in during the chamber's first sitting week - starting Monday July 7.
