Security screening delays refugee arrivals

A government frontbencher says Australia's intake of Syrian refugees is being held up by security processes.

Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs Concetta Fierravanti-Wells says it is important the 12,000 refugees are subject to stringent security screening amid reports Islamic State militants have infiltrated refugee camps.

"It's perhaps not progressing as fast as we had thought," she told Sky News on Wednesday.
