An ocean search for a 14-year-old boy feared drowned at a Sydney beach is expected to resume today.

Tui Gallaher vanished after getting in trouble while swimming with his cousin at Maroubra Beach around 8.30pm on Tuesday.

His family watched on as a search aided by jetskis, boats and rescue helicopter searched for the teen until around sunset yesterday.

"Love you my handsome nephew. Come back to mum," the teen's aunt posted on Facebook.

Tui, from Sydney's southwest, was on a family beach trip when he got into trouble.

His cousin was pulled from the surf by a 26-year-old passerby, police said.
