Scuba diver rescued in Sydney’s southeast

An exhausted scuba diver was rescued by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter in Sydney's southeast on Saturday afternoon.

The rescue helicopter service was called at approximately 2pm after reports of a man in distress in the water near Bare Island.

He was then transported to the helicopter's base at La Perouse, where paramedics were waiting.

The man was treated for exhaustion and did not need to be transported to hospital.

Bare Island is a popular spot for divers and snorkelers due to the rich marine life in the area.

It lies within the Kamay Botany Bay National Park and was featured in the Hollywood blockbuster Mission: Impossible 2.
