Scott Hoskins: Man denied bail over Waterloo hit-and-run

A father cried out in court as a young man was led away after being denied bail over a fatal hit-and-run in Sydney.

Scott Hoskins, 21, was remanded in custody when he appeared Wollongong Local Court today after allegedly killing a woman in a hit-and-run incident last Thursday.

His father screamed out “I love you” as he was led away and later apologised to the family of a 20-year-old woman who died in hospital after being struck a she crossed a road in Waterloo, in Sydney’s CBD.

Police allege Hoskins fled the scene in a white Kia Rio as the woman lay seriously injured on the road.

The court heard Hoskins had been driving with a suspended licence at the time of the crash.

The 21-year-old handed himself into police on Friday after his mother allegedly tried to take the blame for the fatal crash.

She was arrested at her Dapto home and charged with hindering police and knowingly making a false statement in the attempt to pervert the course of justice.

Hoskins has been charged with five offences including dangerous driving occasioning death, failing to stop and driving with a suspended licence.

A man police allege was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash was also arrested and charged with concealing a serious offence.

Hoskins will reappear in court later this month.
