Thrift shop volunteer Wendy Hawkins discovered the painting in January, the Virginia Pilot reported.
Art appraiser Melanie Smith said the piece fit with other Dali works.
It sold to a Portsmouth couple for $1200.
The money will go to the Outer Banks charity, which runs a shelter for runaway teens, victims of violence, and human trafficking.
