Two passengers killed in single car crash

Two passengers died when a car crashed into a tree this morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of George and Soldiers Point roads at Salamander Bay in the NSW Hunter region around 1am.

The 30-year-old driver of the Mazda 3 hatchback suffered serious injuries and two of his passengers were killed.

A 34-year-old man travelling in the car’s front passenger seat and another man, whose age remains unknown and was travelling in a rear passenger seat, both died.

Another 30-year-old who was travelling in a rear passenger seat suffered minor injuries and is at John Hunter Hospital, along with the driver, in a stable condition.

Police confirmed in a statement that inquiries into the incident are continuing however alcohol is considered as a causing factor.
