Xenophon: Victims of crime need real say

Nick Xenophon wants South Australian victims of crime to have the strongest rights in the country.

If his party holds the balance of power after Saturday's election, the SA-BEST leader wants to block criminal matters from proceeding to a plea bargain unless the victim has been consulted, and promises to table a bill reforming victims' rights within the first six months of the new parliament.

"For too long victims of crime have been ignored, or just given lip service to their rights and concerns that they are to be treated fairly," Mr Xenophon said on Wednesday.
