Woman stops cathedral fire in SA

A small fire on the alter of Adelaide's Catholic cathedral has been prevented from spreading by a vigilant churchgoer.

The woman noticed the fire among candles in St Francis Xavier's on Friday and used a fire blanket to smother the flames before finishing the job with an extinguisher.

The fire left the cathedral filled with smoke, with firefighters bringing in a pressure fan to clear the space before declaring it safe.
