Man charged over fatal SA hit-and-run

A South Australian driver has been charged with hitting an elderly woman and leaving her for dead.

The 84-year-old woman was struck while crossing a road at Risdon Park near Port Pirie on Friday night. Police say the driver did not stop to help.

The woman was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she died.

Police arrested a 40-year-old Port Pirie man on Saturday, and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and render assistance, and leaving the scene of a collision.

He was bailed to face court at a later date.
