Winemaker accused of destroying alcohol

A prominent South Australian winemaker is accused of sneaking into a winery he previously worked at, opening the taps on four tanks and destroying more than $300,000 worth of the alcohol.

Trevor David Jones, 57, of Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley, faced the Elizabeth magistrates court on Tuesday after being arrested last month.

He is charged with serious criminal trespass and property damage at Kellermeister Wines at Lyndoch in the early hours of February 22.

He is accused of releasing about 25,000 litres at the Kellermeister winery, where he previously worked.

Jones, who now runs Trevor Jones Fine Wines at Lyndoch, will face the Adelaide magistrates court on June 9.
