SA still mopping up after damaging storm

South Australia is still mopping up 24 hours after winds of more than 100km/h, heavy rain and surging coastal tides lashed the state.

About 500 homes remain without power and the State Emergency Service has responded to almost 100 calls for help.

But this pales in comparison to Monday, when homes were evacuated and an emergency relief centre opened in Two Wells, north of the city, while the SES received almost 700 calls for help.

More than 65mm of rain fell in Lobethal, in the Adelaide Hills, and up to 30mm fell across Adelaide.

Wind gusts of more than 100km/h hit Murray Bridge, while parts of the city recorded 98km/h gusts.

Coastal homes were inundated by tides more than a metre above average and Adelaide jetties, from Port Noarlunga to Largs Bay, were closed for safety reasons.

Rain and wind eased throughout Tuesday.
