Who is Jay Weatherill?

PREMIER AND LABOR LEADER JAY WEATHERILL:

* Jay Weatherill was born and educated in Adelaide's western suburbs. He is married with two young daughters.

* Graduated from the University of Adelaide with degrees in law and economics. He established his own law firm in 1995.

* Elected in 2002 to the seat of Cheltenham in Adelaide's west and immediately joined the ministry.

* Has held a range of portfolios including local government, urban development, families and Aboriginal affairs.

* Unsuccessfully challenged to be deputy premier in 2010.

* Ousted incumbent Mike Rann in a factional coup in 2011 and led his party to a successful re-election in 2014.

* Has championed renewable energy and advanced manufacturing as he tries to secure a record fifth straight term in office for Labor.
