Water flows to combat algae in Adelaide

A release of fresh water into Adelaide's Torrens Lake has begun to combat a rise in algal levels.

Natural Resources Adelaide says the current run of hot weather has caused the increase.

Some types of blue-green algae can be toxic and could cause the closure of the lake if they reach high concentrations.

A similar increase in levels during a hot spell late last year was brought under control by an increase in freshwater flows.
