University staff to meet over job cuts

Staff at the University of Adelaide are to meet amid concerns of job losses from a restructure of support services.

National Tertiary Education Union says it expects 120 jobs to go as the university centralises some functions currently provided by individual schools and faculties.

The union's branch president Felix Patrikeef says staff are concerned about the changes.

Staff are clearly telling us that there is no room left to cut, as the university has undertaken myriad reviews and restructures in these areas in recent times," he said in a statement.

"It is clear that any reductions in staff will result in an unbearable workload for those who remain."

Union members will meet at the university on Thursday to discuss the proposals.

Professor Patrikeef says cutting jobs would also deliver a $10 million hit to the South Australian economy.
