Two dead in SA crash

A 90-year-old man and his 76-year-old female passenger have died in a head-on collision with a truck in South Australia's mid-north.

The driver of the truck was airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the crash on the Augusta Highway at Hope Gap on Thursday.

The driver of another car, with a caravan in tow, suffered minor injuries when his vehicle rolled as he tried to avoid the collision.

The crash sparked a small grass fire which was quickly brought under control.

Major crash investigators remained at the scene on Thursday afternoon, with the two deaths taking the South Australian road toll for 2018 to 77 compared to 98 at the same time last year.
