Toddler killed by car in driveway of home in Adelaide Hills

A toddler has died and her mother has been injured in a tragic driveway accident in the Adelaide Hills.
The 18-month-old girl and her mother were hit by their empty family car, a Holden station wagon, yesterday afternoon when it rolled down the driveway of their Clarendon home.
SA Ambulance paramedics as well as a specialist from the MedSTAR team worked on the child at the scene before rushing her to Flinders Medical Centre with critical injuries.
Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and the girl died shortly after arriving at hospital.
Her mother is also in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while her father is being treated for shock.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, told The Adelaide Advertiser the young family had lived at the property for about two years and built the house themselves.
“They’re a lovely young couple who wanted to make a life for themselves out here,” she said.
“This will impact a lot of people - Clarendon is a tight-knit community.”
The car has been towed from the scene and the Major Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
