Talks continue to end prisons lockdown

Negotiations are continuing to end a lockdown in South Australia's prisons prompted by an industrial dispute involving prison guards.

Correctional Services Minister Tony Piccolo says prison management and Public Service Association representatives were in talks to resolve the row over recordings taken of a meeting between prison staff and corrections officials.

The PSA ordered the lockdown on Tuesday over concerns that information recorded during the meeting was being used to investigate particular officers.

PSA chief industrial officer Peter Christopher said while the department had apologised for recording the meeting without the consent of some involved, it had failed to guarantee that comments made at the time would not be used to discipline any workers.

Mr Christopher said the PSA believed the recordings were inappropriate and deceitful.

Mr Piccolo told parliament any suggestion that meetings were recorded secretly was rejected.

He said the dispute centred on whether or not all those involved in a particular consultative committee meeting were aware it was being recorded.

The minister said it was common to record such meetings for the production of accurate minutes but that was usually done with the consent of all those involved.

Tuesday's lockdown caused major issues with the state's courts, delaying a number of cases, including one where a man who pleaded guilty to murder was due to be sentenced.
