COVID sceptic's online rant before allegedly busting through border checkpoint

A South Australian COVID-19 sceptic shared an anti-mask rant on Facebook just hours before allegedly driving back into the state from Victoria through a border checkpoint at Yamba.

In a six-minute Facebook Live video, Celeste Lockwood, 37, recounted her argument with a worker at a petrol station in Mildura who told her she had to wear a mask when she entered the shop.

"They come up to me and say 'oh, excuse me, you can't come in, you're not wearing a mask'," she said.

"I'm like 'excuse me', I said 'I don't wear a mask'."

Police will allege patrols on the Sturt Highway checkpoint attempted to stop a red Nissan Pulsar as it approached the checkpoint from Victoria at 4.12pm on Wednesday.

The driver allegedly refused to stop and was pursued by patrols, with road spikes used to stop the car on Stanitzki Road close to Bookpurnong Road.

Ms Lockwood was arrested soon after and charged with numerous offences including engaging in a police pursuit and other offences relating to failure to stop at the checkpoint.

The Renmark woman earlier described mask rules as "just fake propaganda" and said she'd be talking to authorities about her rights if she was stopped at the border.

"It's really sad how they're changing the world and trying to separate people like this," she said in the video. 

"Just because you're a non-mask-wearer, because you know some truth about health, it's actually really sad."

The 37-year-old was refused bail in court on Thursday and will remain behind bars for two weeks, ahead of her next appearance.

Police are reminding the public they are actively monitoring the borders and anyone who tries to evade the checkpoints will face hefty consequences.
