South Australian man dies after catching meningococcal

A South Australian resident has died after contracting invasive meningococcal.

SA Health said the person is the first to die from the disease in the state this year.

The health department has identified at least 10 people the patient had contact with and directed them to seek medical treatment.

There have been 16 cases of invasive meningococcal in the state so far this year, compared to eight at the same time last year.

This includes a recent case in a 15-year-old girl from Adelaide.

The teenager has been admitted to hospital and she is in a stable condition.
