Emergency crews have spent hours extinguishing a large waste fire that broke out in Adelaide’s north-west this morning.

The fire caught ablaze in a rubbish pile near a soda ash processing plant on Solvay Road in Osborne around 4am.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been identified.

Earlier, the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service urged residents to shut their doors and windows as smoke blanketed the area.

The threat posed by the emergency has now been reduced and smoke is no longer present.

Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to use caution in the area due to the presence of emergency services vehicles.
