Catastrophic fire risk in SA's West Coast

Residents of South Australia's West Coast are being urged to leave their homes ahead of catastrophic fire danger.

Total fire bans have been declared for 13 of the state's 15 weather districts on Saturday.

The Country Fire Service has forecast catastrophic fire danger in the West Coast, where the temperature is set to climb into the mid-40s.

"Where fire ban districts have a forecast fire danger rating of catastrophic, well-prepared, well-constructed and defended homes may not be safe during a fire," the CFS says.

"To ensure your survival you should leave tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Extreme fire danger is forecast in the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula and Mount Lofty Ranges.

Severe fire danger is expected in the North West Pastoral, Flinders, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East districts.

People in affected areas should prepare to implement their bushfire survival plans, the CFS said.

The temperature is set to climb to 41C in Adelaide before easing slightly to 39C on Sunday.
