SA police renew search in bones case

Mounted police are searching a 40km stretch of scrub near where a young girl's remains were found in a suitcase, east of Adelaide.

The horseback patrols have been brought in to help cover the expanded search zone between Tailem Bend and Karoonda more quickly.

Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins said it was a follow-up to an extensive search of the area where the remains were found dumped near Wynarka in July.

"Because of the nature of where the girl was found, we really just need to see what else is out there," he told reporters on Monday.

A motorist found the suitcase containing ragged clothing and other items alongside the bones of an unidentified girl aged between two and half to four years old.

Police are currently checking through more than 250 names of potential victims which were collated by various welfare and other agencies across the country.

On Sunday it emerged a shopper had spotted on eBay a jacket identical to a badly degraded garment found with the girl's remains.

The jacket, which has been handed to investigators, is being examined to determine its maker, and where and when it might have been sold.

Police are also still trying to find a man who was seen in the area on more than one occasion carrying a suitcase.

Insp Hutchins said those reports continued to be "baffling" to police.

"It is quite unusual. A person with a suitcase out on a country road, particularly at Wynarka which is a very small community," he said.
