Workers have returned to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital building site after stopping work, following the death of a 54-year-old man an industrial accident.

Jorge Castillo-Riffo received injuries to his head, neck and back on Thursday morning after he became trapped between a scissor lift and a concrete slab. He died in hospital the next day.

Management and the workers' union, the CFMEU, agreed on Friday to shut down the site out of respect for the man.

Workers returned on Tuesday and held a minute's silence for the man.

CFMEU state secretary Aaron Cartledge says the union will begin a review of procedures at the site while SafeWork SA investigates the accident.

More than 1000 workers are employed at the site, which operates 24 hours a day.
