A driver has died after their car crashed and rolled on a highway in South Australia.

The accident happened on Thursday night on the Copper Coast Highway at Newtown between Kadina and Wallaroo.

The driver, who the only person in the car, died at the scene.

Earlier in the day, an 84-year-old woman died in hospital after she suffered head injuries during a collision in Glenelg South on Tuesday.

Police are still investigating the cause of both incidents.

Their deaths bring the state's road toll to 29. It was 26 at the same time last year.
