South Australia will crack down on the promotion of gambling to children.

Consumers Minister Gail Gago says cabinet has approved new draft regulations for the sale of products such as toy poker, mini roulette wheels and blackjack.

Retailers will be required to restrict the advertising of gambling products and place signs on shelves stating that the products are not recommended for children.

"These seemingly innocent games could lead to gambling more broadly," Ms Gago said on Monday.

"This government will not sit back and watch children become gambling addicts."

The draft regulations have been sent to retailers, including Coles, Woolworths, Target and Big W.
