SA summit to combat spike in road deaths

Police, emergency services and road safety and motoring experts will hold a crisis summit to consider South Australia's shockingly high road toll this year.

Emergency Services Minister Corey Wingard says the number of deaths in 2019 is unacceptable with 44 people killed so far compared to 27 at the same time last year.

Mr Wingard says a summit this week will leave "no stone unturned" to stop further road deaths including any new laws that may inconvenience drivers but save lives.

"I look forward to hearing the expert panel's views on this, as well as opening up the floor to other strategies as they may raise," the minister said.

Mr Wingard said the government had an "unwavering" commitment to road safety.
