SA set for more wild weather

A severe weather warning has been issued for Adelaide and southern parts of South Australia as damaging winds, rain and thunderstorms move across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology says a cold front will reach Kangaroo Island and the Eyre Peninsula on Wednesday night and move further east early on Thursday morning.

It will bring wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and heavy rain. Adelaide is forecast to have up to 40mm over the next 24 hours.

Falls will be heavier in the Adelaide Hills with the State Emergency Service warning of possible localised flooding along the upper Onkaparinga River.

Towns most likely to be affected include Oakbank and Verdun.

The bureau said winds were expected to ease on Friday but showers will continue until Saturday.

South Australia was also hit by a blast of wintry weather on Tuesday with Parndana on Kangaroo Island recording wind gusts of up to 106km/h.

The SES responded to about 70 calls for assistance and handled another 30 jobs on Wednesday.
