SA school stabbing accused granted bail

A 14-year-old girl charged over stabbing a fellow student at an Adelaide school has been granted strict home detention bail, after prosecutors raised concern over anger management issues.

The girl, who has spent more than four weeks in custody since the alleged attack, was released by magistrate Kym Boxall in a youth court hearing on Wednesday.

She was charged with aggravated intentionally causing harm over the incident, which took place during school hours on August 1.

Prosecutors opposed all forms of bail, and said a report prepared by Dr Marshall Watson suggested the offending was not the result of a "psychotic break".

"The underlying factors appear to be issues with anger management, lack of empathy and remorse for the victim and some issues with her peer group," a prosecutor told the court.

"It's the prosecution's position that, given Dr Watson's findings in his report, that the defendant does still pose a risk to the community and particularly in relation to the victims."

The court previously heard the girl's 17-year-old victim had been standing at a hand basin in a bathroom when she felt a sharp pain through her upper back.

A police prosecutor said the accused told her victim "I'm sorry" before running from the toilet block.

The girl will not attend school for the rest of the year, and has instead been enrolled in open education, which can be completed from home.

Her father's 11 registered firearms and most of his knives have been removed from his house, although the girl will live with her mother, who has purchased lock boxes to store household knives and other potential weapons.

The magistrate told her parents, who were in court for Wednesday's hearing, "there's going to have to be real working together" to support their daughter.

The girl has been released on strict conditions, including electronic monitoring, and will reappear before the court in October.
