SA's home detention laws to be tightened

Fewer convicted South Australian criminals will be eligible for home detention sentences under a proposed tightening of recently introduced laws.

Attorney-General John Rau will introduce the planned changes to state parliament on Wednesday, which would prevent offenders who receive a non-parole period of two years or more from receiving a home detention sentence.

The move comes two months after courts were given the option of ordering home detention which resulted in widespread criticism when a drug trafficker and a serious sex offender were given such sentences.
