South Australia's Liberal opposition will vote with the Greens to ensure same-sex marriages performed overseas are recognised on death certificates.

The cross-party bill comes after British man Marco Bulmer-Rizzi was refused next-of-kin status when his husband David died in Adelaide in January.

"Recognition of overseas same sex marriages is an important first step for SA to catch up with the rest of Australia and the rest of the developed world with respect to marriage equality," Australian Marriage Equality spokesman Harley Schumann says.
