SA premier defends CBD food trucks

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill is pushing back against the Adelaide City Council's crackdown on food trucks.

Only 10 food trucks will be able to open in the CBD during the day - with exceptions for special events such as Fringe Festival - under rules passed at a meeting on Tuesday.

The number of food truck permits have also been cut from 40 to 30.

"Extremely disappointing... we will see what our options are and how we, as the government, can support these young entrepreneurs in the city," Mr Weatherill said on Facebook on Wednesday.

One Adelaide food truck owner, Emma Whybrow, said the clampdown would help kill city culture.

"I had to leave Adelaide on the weekend [be]cause we just don't work in South Australia. Events are too expensive and the population just doesn't support small businesses," she wrote in reply to Mr Weatherill's Facebook status.

"Sadly this move by Adelaide City Council is just another `kill Adelaide' strategy which will result in zero innovation and zero growth."
