SA premier conducts live Facebook session

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has conducted a live question-and-answer session on Facebook in what he's described as an "experiment in democracy".

The premier took questions for more than half an hour on Wednesday evening with SA's recent problems with disrupted energy supplies the most prominent issue.

That was not unexpected given blackouts over recent months and the move by SA Power Networks to cut power to about 40,000 properties not long before the premier went online after the Australian Energy Market Operator ordered load shedding in response to high demand because of heatwave conditions.

Other questions centred on job creation measures, particularly ahead of the closure of car maker Holden later this year, and when the new Royal Adelaide Hospital will open.

"It's pretty gruelling but it's good to get your questions," Mr Weatherill told his audience at the end of the session, which gathered about 9200 views and attracted 450 likes.

"Thank you for the way in which you've participated."

The premier also pledged to respond to as many questions as possible offline after failing to answer all those he received during the live session.
