An Adelaide mother and father have pleaded guilty to kidnapping their two-year-old son and smuggling him to Malaysia.

But his grandfather has denied assisting the pair and will face trial.

The parents pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday to aggravated counts of failing to comply with a care and protection order, and sending or taking a child out of jurisdiction.

The 27-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, whose names are suppressed, were extradited from Malaysia in October last year.

Their son was under the guardianship of the minister for education and child development, but lived with his Adelaide grandparents.

His 64-year-old grandfather pleaded not guilty on Thursday to aiding and abetting the pair and was ordered to stand trial in the District Court on April 13.

The parents will be arraigned to face sentencing in the District Court on the same date.
