SA murder trial may not proceed

A murder trial over an alleged stabbing in South Australia may not proceed because a key witness is seriously ill, a court has heard.

Veronica Joan Haines appeared in the South Australian Supreme Court on Monday on a prosecution application to revoke her bail in relation to the murder of her partner Ben Reid, 29, in March last year.

The court was told the defendant's mother is to be a key witness but is very unwell and without her evidence prosecutors may not have a case.

The trial has been set down for May.

Haines appeared on Monday in custody after admitting a breach of her home detention bail conditions on Christmas Day.

Defence counsel Marie Shaw told the court that her client had attended a Christmas Party and had called in to see her brother on her way home.

Ms Shaw said a subsequent alleged breach of bail on December 30 was disputed and was the result of a faulty monitoring bracelet.

She said there was no suggestions Haines was a flight risk or had committed other offences while on bail.

Justice Michael David refused the prosecution application.
