SA murder accused's fall delays trial

An Adelaide murder trial has been delayed after the accused man took a fall after viewing the scene of the alleged crime.

Peter Rex Dansie is facing a Supreme Court trial over the drowning death of his wife, 66-year-old Helen, in 2017.

Dansie was returning from Veale Gardens, where prosecutors say he pushed the wheelchair-bound Mrs Dansie into a pond, when he fell over.

He was visiting the scene on Tuesday afternoon as a part of the trial.

His lawyers told the court later that the 70-year-old would remain in hospital for a few hours for observation.

The judge-alone trial was adjourned until Wednesday morning.

Justice David Peek said he was surprised Dansie walked to and from the scene.

"The way that he shuffles into the dock on a daily basis would lead me to infer that he'd have a lot of trouble walking any particular distance," he said.

"It never ever occurred to me that he would be walking to or from a view, just didn't occur to me."
