Two men from South Australia's Limestone Coast have been saved after their boat sank while they were out fishing.

The pair, who were wearing life jackets, spent 10 minutes treading water about 2km off Port MacDonnell on Thursday night after their boat sank because the anchor rope strangled the propeller, police say.

Another recreational fishermen spotted the men, aged 35 and 69, and brought them to shore. While the duo have lost their boat, they have escaped injury.
