SA man placed on bond for drug charges

An Adelaide man who trained to be a correctional services officer has been given a suspended jail sentence for drug offences.

Colin Murray Woolford admitted manufacturing methylamphetamine and cultivating cannabis after police found a hydroponic crop and a hidden drug lab in a shed on his property in 2012.

In remarks published online on Tuesday, South Australian District Court Judge Gordon Barrett said Woolford, 31, had trained to be a correctional services officer but was forced to quit when he suffered a knee injury.

He went on to set up a tattooing business where friendships led him to becoming a drug user.

Judge Barrett said Woolford sold both cannabis and methylamphetamine on a small scale to offset the costs of his own drug use.

He jailed Woolford for three years and eight months with a non-parole period of one year and 10 months.

But the judge suspended both terms, placing Woolford on a three-year good behaviour bond.
