SA man jailed for robbing 84-year-old
A young Adelaide man found guilty of violently robbing an 84-year-old using a walking frame has been jailed for at least two years.
Frank Michael John Kember was found guilty of aggravated robbery after robbing the elderly man near a railway station in Adelaide's northern suburbs last July.
Kember took a wallet, containing $90 in cash and some cards, from the victim's back pocket and the man fell to the ground during the struggle.
Judge David Lovell said the attack was particularly cowardly given that the victim was reliant on a walking frame, describing the elderly man as vulnerable and unable to fight back.
On Wednesday, the judge sentenced Kember to four years jail.
Kember initially denied committing the offence when questioned by police, claiming he had found the wallet on the railway station platform.
The judge noted that Kember had poor intellectual functioning and a history of drug abuse and trouble with the police.
